David A. Hunt

David A. Hunt, 87, of Janesville passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at his home. David was born in Toledo, Ohio on December 11, 1925, the son of Arthur Conklin and Pauline (Sperry) Hunt. He grew up in Toledo where he graduated from high school. He attended Dennison University in Granville, Ohio. David entered the U.S. Navy on December 27, 1943. He served in the Asiatic Pacific area and was discharged May 18, 1946. David then attended the University of Toledo where he received a M.B.A. degree. He then worked as an insurance underwriter for several years. David married Mary Hess on September 9, 1951. Later, while residing in California, David attended seminary and received a bachelor of divinity degree. He then went into teaching and taught for a time at Milton College and UW-Superior. The family moved to Janesville in 1973 and David started teaching at Black Hawk Technical College from which he retired. He was an active member of First Congregational Church UCC, Janesville and was formerly active in Toastmasters and several other civic groups. He was a member of the Scottish Rites Bodies in Ohio and the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. David always took a great interest in travel, maps and geography and enjoyed reading, gardening and working at Rotary Botanical Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Hunt, three children, Kathleen Patenaude of Janesville, Bruce (Monika Ackermann) Hunt of Germany, Scott Hunt of St. Louis, MO, grandchildren, Justin (Mary) Brown of Janesville, Elisabeth (Ryan) Taylor of Waterloo, IA, Andrew Patenaude of Cloquet, MN, Alexander Hunt and Cordula Hunt both of Germany, great-grandchildren, Cadence Patenaude, Mallory Brown, Abigail Brown, Connor Taylor, Garrett Taylor and a sister, JoAnn Dearbaugh of San Marcos, CA.  In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Jane Fellabaum.
Visitation will be Monday, May 20, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 N. Wright Rd., Janesville. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 21st at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church UCC with Rev. Dr. Wes Bixby officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Congregational Church UCC, Rotary Botanical Gardens or the Rock County Humane Society.
